Significant Setback in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis

The fragile security situation in the country, despite the recent weeks of apparent calm, continues to affect Haiti's healthcare system in various ways. According to Dr. Jean William Pape, since February 29, 2024, the GHESKIO centers have recorded a 20% dropout rate among individuals enrolled in their HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis programs.

This is not the first time that insecurity has forced the GHESKIO centers to develop new strategies to preserve the progress made over the past 25 years in combating infectious diseases, particularly HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

"Since the Martissant blockade, we have established about ten care sites for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis. South of Martissant, we regularly care for 4,000 patients," Dr. Jean William Pape, Executive Director of GHESKIO centers, told Le Nouvelliste in an interview.
