IOM Reports Over 216,000 Haitians Deported to Haiti in 2023

In a report released on Monday, May 27, 2024, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) provided an overview of the situation facing Haitian migrants who were forced to return to Haiti during 2023. A total of 216,677 Haitian migrants from various countries were compelled to return to their homeland.

According to the IOM, these migrants had spent several months, or even years, living outside Haiti. They now face significant challenges in reintegrating into their communities. "The security and socio-economic conditions in Haiti make this reintegration even more difficult. As a result, many people, even after being forced back to Haiti, attempt irregular migration routes again, sometimes multiple times, in search of a better life abroad," the report stated.
