The members of the Presidential Transition Council aim to present the country with the name of the next Prime Minister by the end of this week. They are currently reviewing the sixty or so applications and hope to significantly narrow down the list of contenders for the position before making a decision either by consensus or by a majority vote of 5 out of 7 council members.

At this time, the council members do not wish to make the list of Prime Minister candidates public. Our sources within the council did not provide any specific reason for withholding this information. However, they did inform the newspaper that the council received a total of 68 applications for the position of head of government.

Of the nine sectors that signed the April 3rd agreement, only three have officially nominated candidates for the Prime Minister position. These include REN, which nominated Gary Conille; the private business sector, which nominated Didier Fils-Aimé; and the political party Pitit Desalin, which nominated Fritz Bélizaire, our sources revealed.

Our contacts within the council disclosed that they received approximately 200 applications, most of which are letters of support for Prime Minister candidacies. "For example, sector X nominated Mr. or Ms. Y for the position of Prime Minister, and many other organizations sent letters supporting Y's candidacy, but it still counts as one candidacy," a presidential councilor explained to Le Nouvelliste, noting that many similar cases were observed during the initial reviews.

"In the end, we received 68 applications. Among these, any candidate who submitted their documents without the support of a signatory sector of the April 3rd agreement or a sector that has adhered to the agreement will be automatically rejected," our contact at the council specified. He highlighted that several independent candidates have already been eliminated.

Among the 68 applications, there are also candidates who submitted their applications under the banner of a non-signatory sector of the April 3rd agreement, which has never sent a letter of adherence to the agreement to the council. "They too will be excluded from the process," our source at the Presidential Transition Council asserted.

While the council does not plan to publish the list of 68 contenders for the Prime Minister position, our source indicated that the list of candidates who meet the initial selection criteria will be made public. This will be known either this Wednesday or shortly thereafter, according to our source.

"By the end of the week, the country will know the name selected by the Presidential Council to occupy the position of transitional Prime Minister," our contact at the council announced. "The council will prioritize consensus in choosing the Prime Minister, but if necessary, we will proceed to a vote with a majority of 5 out of 7," he said.
