Assault on Haiti's National Library Endangers "All 19th Century Haitian Knowledge"

The National Library of Haiti (BNH) has been the target of several attacks, according to its director general, Dangelo Néard, who confirmed that it has been looted and vandalized.

Images showing a partial fire at the BNH building circulated on social media on the evening of April 4. Speaking on the weekend morning show on Magik 9, Sunday, April 21, the institution's director, Dangelo Néard, was unable to provide precise information about the fire. "We do not have objective evidence of the library fire," he said. However, "we know that it has been ransacked and looted two or three times by criminals."
