Over 180 Houses Destroyed to Secure Toussaint Louverture International Airport

Clear-up operations are progressing around Toussaint Louverture International Airport, in the Cité Bossière/Fil aéroport zone (Tabarre 16) after the destruction of about 180 houses within the airport's perimeter. Armed men had climbed some of these houses at the end of February to fire upon the airport. Local and international flights remain suspended to Port-au-Prince following these events.

The path begins to clear in the northern part of Toussaint Louverture International Airport on Thursday, April 18, 2024. After the destruction of about 180 houses adjacent to the northern perimeter of the airport, clear-up operations are underway. Several trucks have been observed transporting debris. Two armored vehicles are ensuring the security of the perimeter. While an apparent calm prevails from Clercine to the expropriation site, people are simply abandoning their homes out of fear.
