Following Dominique Dupuy's withdrawal from the transition council, the political coalition EDE-RED and Compromis historique designated Smith Augustin on Sunday, March 24, 2024, to serve on the Presidential Council. His name has been officially sent to CARICOM, and according to a council member, he is expected to participate in Monday's meeting with CARICOM.
As the former ambassador of Haiti to the Dominican Republic, Smith Augustin takes the place of Dominique Dupuy on the Presidential Transition Council.
