Crisis in Food Supply Expands to Other Regions

According to the latest report from the National Food Security Coordination released on March 22, 2024, approximately 532,000 more people are now facing acute food insecurity compared to estimates from August 2023. Nearly 243,500 individuals have shifted into Emergency status. In total, eight out of the thirty-two zones covered by the study are in Emergency phase, while the rest of the country continues to experience an overall crisis of food insecurity.

The country's food situation is worsening rapidly. The prevalence of projected food insecurity has increased from 45% to 50% from August 2023 to February 2024. This update reflects a significant deterioration compared to the previous projection made during the August 2023 analysis, with approximately 4.97 million people, or nearly 50% of the analyzed population, facing high levels of acute food insecurity for the period from March to June 2024.
