Internal Disputes in the December 21 Accord Stall Formation of Presidential Council

For several days now, Caricom government leaders have been holding meetings with the three branches of the December 21 Accord, urging them to reach an agreement on the selection of their representative to the transitional Presidential Council. Following a meeting on Friday with Caricom members, Charles Tardieu decided to withdraw his candidacy. The regional organization has given the other two parties until noon on Saturday to reach an agreement.

It's a done deal. Five political and civil society organizations have already submitted their nominee for the transitional Presidential Council to Caricom. Were it not for divisions within the December 21 Accord, the Presidential Council would already be officially formed.
