Pétion-Ville, the last major city in the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, which had been relatively peaceful, experienced hours of uncertainty on Friday, March 15, 2024. While no one can explain the origin of the panic, it disrupted the tranquility and traffic in the municipality before calm was restored.

By mid-day on March 15, 2024, the commune of Pétion-ville was in a state of panic, with pedestrians and motorists scrambling to make their way home. Traffic came to a standstill on most arteries, including Rue Panaméricaine, Rue Grégoire, Rue Clerveaux, and all sections leading to Place St-Pierre and its surrounding area.
