Port-au-Prince: Five BSAP Members Killed in Police Shootouts, City Experiences Heightened Tension This Week

After three consecutive days of protests and tension, a timid resumption of activities was observed in some areas of Port-au-Prince, this Thursday, February 8th. Very few barricades were noticed in the streets. No protests were reported. Vehicles and pedestrians were more numerous than in previous days. Some commercial banks opened their doors.

Five members of the Brigade for Protected Areas (BSAP) were killed in clashes with UDMO agents in Laboule on Wednesday, February 7th. The information was confirmed to Le Nouvelliste by a police source. This source also reported that three other BSAP members were arrested by law enforcement.

This contact also reported several items seized by law enforcement, including weapons and ammunition. In a photo shared with the editorial team, one can identify an M4 rifle, a 12-gauge shotgun, an Uzi, a 9mm caliber pistol, 2 pairs of handcuffs
