Maria Isabel Salvador: Political Accord Not a Precondition for MMAS Deployment

Maria Isabel Salvador, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Haiti and Head of the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH), asserted that the political agreement desired by the international community since the assassination of former President Jovenel Moïse is not mandatory for the deployment of the Multinational Mission to Support Security (MMAS). She made this statement during the meeting of the Restricted Consultative Ad Hoc Committee on the situation in Haiti on January 18, 2024. During the meeting, Salvador discussed the situation of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and the preparations to be made in anticipation of the MMAS deployment.
