Government Takes Measures to Address BSAP Issues

The Brigade for Protected Areas Security (BSAP) operates under the National Agency for Protected Areas, an autonomous entity within the Ministry of the Environment. Over the years, the BSAP has shifted from its role of protecting protected areas to becoming an armed group serving political interests. Since 2018, the structure has grown from 100 agents to an undisclosed number, raising concerns within the government.

The government is engaging in multiple meetings to assess the current size, funding, and deployment of the BSAP, as disclosed by a government source involved in these discussions. The BSAP members, equipped with weapons and often operating far from protected areas, have become a matter of national security concern.
