This Friday, January 12, 2024, marks the fourteenth anniversary of the devastating 2010 earthquake. Hundreds of thousands of compatriots lost their lives that day, and many others were injured or traumatized.
January 12, 2010, also signifies the date of the greatest single-day destruction of wealth that the country has experienced since its independence. Thousands of homes were destroyed, and large parts of the country were disfigured. Some property owners never recovered, and downtown Port-au-Prince is still out of business.
