Caricom's Fourth Mission to Haiti: Political Players on a Precarious Path

Less than a month after their last mission in Haiti, the Caricom Eminent Persons Group will once again be on a mission to the country from December 6 to 14. While their proposal for a political agreement has been rejected by some opposition parties, Caricom envoys still hope to persuade the stakeholders to reach a political consensus to lift the country out of the crisis.

The proposed framework for the transition project, submitted to political actors and civil society by the Caricom Eminent Persons Group two weeks ago, does not include the resignation of Prime Minister Ariel Henry in the negotiations. However, this is a demand from most opposition political parties. Even though they announce that they will meet with Caricom envoys arriving in the country on December 6, they reject all or part of the Caricom representatives' agreement proposal.
