Law enforcement agents are still unable to regain control of the Mariani district on the southern exit of Port-au-Prince, which has been overrun by bandits since November 1. As a result of this attack, the armed gang has for over a week been controlling the installations of the Direction Nationale de l'Eau Potable et de l'Assainissement (DINEPA), which supply water to several neighborhoods in Carrefour and Port-au-Prince. The director of DINEPA considers this to be a public health and safety issue.
