In an effort to combat transnational crimes such as arms trafficking, smuggling, corruption, and more, the United States has been actively expanding its operations in Haiti since 2022. This includes the establishment of the Department of Homeland Security office in Haiti, a regional firearms intelligence unit in Trinidad and Tobago, and the creation of a "transnational criminal investigation unit in Haiti to facilitate investigations and prosecutions of transnational crime."

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a statement praising the renewal of the arms embargo on non-state actors and associated sanctions, emphasized measures already taken by the Biden administration, notably the creation of a "transnational criminal investigation unit in Haiti to facilitate investigations and prosecutions of transnational crime, including those linked to the United States."
