Canada Extends Path to Permanent Residency for Haitians

Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship announced on Tuesday a new pathway that will allow 15,000 Colombian, Haitian, and Venezuelan migrants to establish themselves in Canada on a regular basis. Marc Miller emphasized that this new humanitarian pathway will grant these migrants access to permanent residency.

After the closure of the Roxham Road crossing in March 2023, which allowed thousands of Colombians, Haitians, and Venezuelans to enter Canada through the land border with the United States, Canadian authorities are offering another, more controlled and regulated pathway to migrants. "Earlier this year, we announced that we would welcome, on a humanitarian basis, 15,000 migrants from the Western Hemisphere. We are offering a path to economic opportunities to help address forced displacement as an alternative to irregular migration,"
