Canadian Royal Mounted Police to Train in the Multinational Mission in Haiti

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is considering sending 150 agents to Haiti to participate in the training of members of the National Police as part of the deployment of the Multinational Mission in Support of Security in Haiti. Lisa Vandehei, Director-General of the Interdepartmental Working Group on Haiti at Global Affairs Canada, made this announcement on Thursday before the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, pledging a special focus on preventing sexual violence.

Less than a week after the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2699 authorizing the dispatch of a Multinational Mission to Support Security in Haiti, Canada is specifying how it plans to participate in this mission. "The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is considering providing very technical and highly relevant training to the National Police," stated Lisa Vandehei, referring to Canada's participation in the Multinational Mission.
