Haiti: Multinational Security Mission Approved; BINUH Chief Calls for Political Compromise

On Monday 2 October 2023, the Security Council approved the deployment in Haiti of a Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM). Thirteen members voted in favour, with two abstaining.

"This is a positive and decisive step towards restoring peace and stability in the country," states Maria Isabel Salvador, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti, in an official statement released shortly after the Security Council vote.
