The idea of deploying a multinational force in Haiti has been gaining momentum for months, ever since Prime Minister Ariel Henry made the request in a letter to the Secretary-General of the United Nations in October 2022.
The prospect of forming the multinational force took a new turn when Kenya offered to take the leadership role.
Other countries, notably the Bahamas, Canada to some extent, and the United States of America with substantial resources, have announced their intention to support the Kenyan initiative.
