Kidnapping of Pierre-Louis Opont: "I'm going through the most difficult time of my life", says journalist Marie-Lucie Bonhomme

At the initiative of the Haitian Journalists Association (AJH) and SOS Journalists, some twenty press workers marched through the streets of Pétion-Ville on July 16, 2023, to demand the release of Pierre-Louis Opont (co-owner of Télé Pluriel), kidnapped on the evening of June 20, 2023 in Tabarre as he was about to return home. Emblematic figures from the Haitian press, such as Liliane Pierre-Paul, and human rights activists, displayed signs with messages of solidarity with the victim during the march, which was completely silent.

"I'm going through the most difficult ordeal of my life, and God knows I've been through a lot," stated Marie-Lucie Bonhomme, one of the country's most influential journalists, as she marched to demand the release of her husband, Pierre-Louis Opont, co-owner of the independent TV station Télé Pluriel.
