UN Security Council Renews Binuh Mandate, Calls for Options, Including Force Deployment in Haiti

The UN Security Council, via resolution 2692 (2023), voted unanimously to renew Binuh's mandate for a year, and asked Secretary-General Antonio Guteress "to submit a written report to the Council, in consultation with Haiti, within 30 days, outlining the range of support options that the UN can provide to improve the security situation, including support to combat illicit trafficking and detour of arms and related materiel, additional training for the Haitian National Police, support for a non-UN multinational force or possible peacekeeping operation, as part of support for a political settlement in Haiti," reads a UN statement.
