CAC 2023: Aliyah Shipman and Ava Soon Lee Win Two Medals for Haiti in Taekwondo

The taekwondo competitions for the Central American and Caribbean Games took place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Sports Complex in the Dominican Republic on Wednesday, July 5, and Thursday, July 6. Two athletes, Aliyah Shipman in the +68kg category and Ava Soon Lee in the -67kg category, each secured a medal, bringing glory to Haiti, which had not won any medals in these games before.

The Haitian taekwondo team, comprising six athletes, faced a challenging start to the Central American and Caribbean Games, with Daniel Supré being eliminated in the individual Poomsae events, and Marthe Ostin and Woobens Cazeau facing the same fate in the mixed Poomsae events on Tuesday, July 4. This was a disappointment for the fans and supporters who had high expectations for the team's performance.

It was not until Wednesday, July 5, that Haiti finally made its mark on the medal table, thanks to Aliyah Shipman. Compe
