Acute Food Insecurity: "Haiti's Situation is Alarming," alerts the World Food Programme

According to figures shared by the national coordination of food security, nearly half of the Haitian population is experiencing food insecurity in 2023. "The situation is very alarming," warned Jean-Martin Bauer, the country director of the World Food Programme.

4.9 million people in Haiti are facing acute food insecurity, compared to 4.7 million last year. "The situation is deteriorating, and the food needs are increasing," revealed Jean-Martin Bauer on Magik 9, on Friday, May 19, 2023.

After Cyclone Matthew in 2016, the same methodology estimated 1.7 million people in a state of acute food insecurity. "The figure has tripled in a few years. We are deeply concerned and need to take strong actions," said Jean-Martin Bauer.
