World Press Freedom Index 2023: Haiti in Freefall.

Haiti is ranked 99th out of 180 countries in Reporters Without Borders' 2023 World Press Freedom Index. However, in 2022, Haiti was ranked 70th out of the same number of countries. The assassination of several journalists and the impunity enjoyed by their killers partly explain the country's decline in one of the few global reports where Haiti was doing relatively well not long ago.

"Haitian journalists are victims of a cruel lack of financial resources, absence of support from institutions, and difficult access to information. For the past two years, they have also been targeted by gangs, subjected to kidnappings and assassinations with impunity," states a report published on Wednesday on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day.
