Haiti’s National Carnival begins on Sunday

Carnival festivities have already begun as usual on Sundays’ preceding carnival. Carnival which takes place in Port-au-Prince this year, will kick-off on Sunday February 7th. The theme this year is "Ayiti Toutan" "Tèt poze pour yon Ayiti pi fre (Haiti Always: Staying levelheaded for a better Haiti).

“This theme is a call for the consideration of the national interest over and above any other form of self-interest," said Minister Raton. A Management Unit for the National Carnival has also been established in order to improve the country’s most popular event. Haiti’s national carnival is celebrated with music, bands and parades. Parades are known for the various chars (floats) which usually have sound systems set up on trucks which play music to for the revelers enjoyment. Food stands selling traditional cuisine and local Rhum Barbancourt
