The cost of money transfers is decreasing in Haiti

In Haiti, as in the rest the world, the costs associated with money transfers has fallen considerably. The costs have gone down drastically. From about 8% in 2009 to less than 5% or even down to 2.5% in 2015, the progress is considerable. The rates vary from one company to another, but fall within the same line.

In 2009, transferring money on average cost between 8 and 10% of the amount sent for sums ranging between 50 and 500 USD. In 2015, a transfer office contacted charges about 2.5% to its customers for transfer of 1,000 USD to Haiti. Transfer costs have declined significantly, especially after the earthquake of January 12, 2010. The money from the diaspora represents over 20% of Haiti's GDP, and 1.923 billion dollars was sent by the diaspora of Haiti in 2014. Using money transfers towards investments in Haiti was the topic discussed at the meeting
