In 2009, transferring money on average cost between 8 and 10% of the amount sent for sums ranging between 50 and 500 USD. In 2015, a transfer office contacted charges about 2.5% to its customers for transfer of 1,000 USD to Haiti. Transfer costs have declined significantly, especially after the earthquake of January 12, 2010.
The money from the diaspora represents over 20% of Haiti's GDP, and 1.923 billion dollars was sent by the diaspora of Haiti in 2014. Using money transfers towards investments in Haiti was the topic discussed at the meeting
