Haiti will soon be amongst the palm oil producing countries

Fresner Dorcin, Minister of Agriculture, conducted the signing of an agreement established between the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Rural Development (MARNDR in French) and two Haitian firms: the Society for the Development of Oil Products SA (SODEPOL in French) and Haiti Palm Oil SA (HUPHASA in French). Haiti will soon join the list of palm oil producing countries which include Malaysia, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic.

A week after his installation as Minister of Agriculture, Dorcin is already hard at work. By signing this agreement, the new minister opens the way to a vertically integrated project that will promote national production in a new industry: the planting of palm oil. "This project aims to plant more than 139,000 palm oils in the Central Plateau on 4,000 hectares. Over 5 years, 50 million will be invested in total between the planting of palm oil and the implementation of crude oil extraction," stated Dorcin prior to the signing of the settlement
