Farmer Field Schools boost family farming

Many farmer field schools (CEP’s in French) have been established to deal with problems related to food and nutrition insecurity in the Northeast region. For these structures, officials intend to strengthen the capacity of small producers in the region to better grasp and understand constraints and make technical decisions regarding production systems. They want to contribute to the improvement of food availability by increasing local production.

llAbout 32 farmer field schools run daily in four municipalities of the Northeast Department. The Capotille community, whose main activity is agriculture, is home to 17 of these schools. Several promising sectors are taken into account as part of the project. At Mingo, a locality of Capotille, the Fanm Konsekan group is currently testing a new approach to the nut crop. This group of 17 women and three men are observing the difference between the traditional peanut crop and the peanut crop grown with compost. All constraints related to this crop
