llBuilt according to engineering standards and handicap accessible, these schools are part of a project launched in the aftermath of the January 12, 2010 earthquake to support the education sector.
The project is in support of the Haitian government in its quest for universal education, hence the choice of placing the schools in remote areas that do not yet have public school infrastructure. The coordination of the construction project was provided by UNICEF, and the work was funded by Belgium.

The key ceremony to 15 schools took place on Friday, November 14th at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Education. Minister Nesmy Manigat welcomed cooperation with UNICEF and Belgium which allowed the construction of these schools as part of the PSUGO program.
