Self-sufficiency goes bananas

Banana production is so insufficient in Haiti that the Dominican Republic sells on the Haitian market. This observation had authorities perplexed for some time. Today, the Ministry of Agriculture is on the hunt for self-sufficiency in bananas.

This goal prompted the Agricultural Departmental Directorate of the West (DDAO in French) to boost banana production in Cité Soleil. To achieve this goal, the Ministry of Agriculture, through the DDAO, cleared channels and repaired irrigation pumps. "We repaired a six-inch pump that was damaged by the earthquake of January 12, 2010.
