The UN renews sanctions regime for one year

Le Conseil de sécurité de l'ONU

The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Wednesday renewing for one year the sanctions imposed on Haiti, which include an arms embargo, a travel ban, and an asset freeze. The text, co-drafted by the United States and Panama, received 14 votes in favor, while Russia abstained. It also extends by 13 months the mandate of the Group of Experts tasked with assisting the sanctions committee. However, the embargo allows for exceptions for arms and assistance meant for the Haitian government to promote peace and security.<\/p>
