The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, warned before the Human Rights Council about the increasing grip of gangs on children in Haiti. According to the UN, between 30% and 50% of the members of these groups are minors, while their recruitment and usage have nearly tripled in 2025. Mr. Türk condemned the vulnerability of children, often faced with the choice of joining a gang or surviving in a violent environment. He also highlighted the inadequacy of prevention, protection, and reintegration measures in the face of the scale of the phenomenon.
