The current El Niño climate phenomenon continued to strengthen in August and now has a 75% chance of becoming the most powerful ever recorded, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) announced Thursday.
According to its measurements and models, El Niño is expected to continue strengthening until it reaches its peak at the end of the year.
There is now a 75% chance that, between October and December, it will reach a level of intensity never measured since records began in 1950.
