Violence in Kenscoff: Amnesty International Calls for Prosecution of Those Responsible and Protection for the Population

Astrid Valencia, Deputy Director of Research for the Americas at Amnesty International, calls for the identification and prosecution of those suspected of being criminally responsible for the murders, kidnappings, and other serious human rights violations during the deadly attack carried out by armed gangs in Kenscoff on the night of August 23-24. In a note dated August 26, the organization also urges Haitian authorities and the international community to intensify efforts to protect the population in the face of the growing violence from these criminal groups. According to the United Nations, at least 47 people have been killed and 22 others injured, while dozens more are reported to have been kidnapped.<\/p>
