Over 1,400 dead and 656 injured in the second quarter, reports BINUH

Between April and June 2026, at least 1,408 people were killed and 656 others injured in Haiti, according to a report from the United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) published on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Gangs are responsible for 55% of the victims, while 40% were recorded during security forces operations against armed groups. The report also notes an increase in attacks in Artibonite, incursions by the Village de Dieu gang, and a rise in kidnappings, with 51 victims in the metropolitan area. At least 796 people also suffered sexual violence related to gangs, while nine individuals, including six children, were killed or injured by explosive drones. However, BINUH notes a decrease in extrajudicial executions and attempted executions involving police, with 14 cases recorded during the second quarter of the current year.<\/p>
