Budget Crisis Forces Cancellation of a Thousand U.S. Flights

A thousand flights were canceled on Friday at U.S. airports due to the prolonged budget impasse, which has led authorities to reduce air traffic because of a shortage of air traffic controllers.

As a safety measure, the Trump administration imposed on Wednesday a reduction in traffic at forty of the busiest U.S. airports in response to the lack of personnel in control towers, where staff have been required to work without pay for more than five weeks because of the government “shutdown.”
