Tropical Storm Melissa, currently active in the Caribbean Sea, “could strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday,” posing a particular threat to Haiti, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) warned on Wednesday.
Melissa is expected to “bring heavy rainfall to parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Jamaica throughout the weekend, leading to a significant risk of flash flooding and landslides,” the NHC specified in a bulletin released at 09:00 GMT.
