After two years of war, Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas reached an agreement early Thursday on a cease-fire in Gaza, as part of Donald Trump’s plan to establish a “lasting” peace in the region. The U.S. president said he expected the hostages to return by Monday.
Upon the announcement of the agreement, a wave of joy swept through Al-Mawasi, an area in central Gaza where tens of thousands of Palestinians displaced by Israeli airstrikes are sheltering, according to an AFP journalist on the scene.
