Bois Caïman: A Bridge Between Heritage and Future Projects

More than two centuries after the founding ceremony of August 14, 1791, the site of Bois Caïman remains overgrown, threatened by neglect and anarchic construction. Gathered at Lakou Breda, intellectuals and authorities adopted an ambitious resolution: to finally make this place of universal memory a living symbol of Haitian identity and cultural diplomacy.

Two days of reflection, debates, and resolutions have just marked a major turning point in the promotion of the historic site of Bois Caïman, considered one of the birthplaces of Haitian and human freedom. The Ministry of Culture and Communication (MCC) organized, on August 13 and 14, a harmonization workshop and a scientific conference bringing together state actors, representatives of the Vodou sector, intellectuals, researchers, and national and international experts.
