K-Dans: The Band That Started Compas Love

Launched in 1994, K-Dans, pioneer of compas love, left its mark on the 1990s and 2000s with its hits and performances at graduation parties. The group later slowed down after the departure of several key members.

December 1994 marked K-Dans’ first public appearance on the Haitian music scene, with a compas love style that instantly won over audiences. The story, however, began in 1992, when a few musician friends created a band called Fokus. The founders brought together singers Jude Jean, Mickael Guirand, and Fabrice Menard; keyboardists Alfred Lataillade and Carlo Vieux; guitarist Gleny Benoit; bassist Gregory Chery; drummer Ricky Juste; and percussionists Ferdinand Romane and Alex Thébaud.
