In 1987, in Miami, three young Haitians decided to breathe new life into compas music. Patrick Handal, Patrick Brun, and John Doane—students and friends—shared a common passion for music. Handal came from a family of entrepreneurs. “I had to travel to continue my studies, and that’s when I met some friends in Miami who also loved music, like John Doane and Patrick Brun,” he recounted in an interview with Stain Medias in 2017.
