Jacmel’s civil prison recorded 14 inmate deaths during July 2025, according to an alarming report released by Me Frantz Comonce, coordinator of the Legal Aid Office (BAL) in the Southeast. These deaths are primarily linked to detention conditions deemed inhumane.
Designed to hold about 120 detainees, the prison is currently housing 800 individuals, Me Comonce lamented.
