Caribbean Sextet and the Art of Compas-Jazz Fusion

Born from the ashes of Ibo Combo in 1977, Caribbean Sextet etched two decades of creation into Haitian musical history, blending jazz, compas, and Latin rhythms.

After finishing their studies, several former members of Ibo Combo returned from the United States. The dissolution of the New York–based group had scattered its musicians: Boulo Valcourt hosted the “Boulo Show” on Télé Haïti while playing with “Horizon 75,” while Edgard “Gaguy” Dépestre pursued his own path. Driven by the “sacred fire,” Réginald Policard contacted Jean Alix Laraque to continue the musical experiment they had started abroad.
