Djet-X: A Musical Journey from New York to the Caribbean

From the American metropolis to every corner of the Caribbean, the band Djet-X made its mark on two decades of compas music, driven by the talent of Gérard “Ti Géra” Daniel, from 1975 through the mid-1990s.

The Djet-X journey began in 1975 on the streets of New York when 19-year-old saxophonist Gérard Daniel founded his own band. Born in Port-au-Prince in 1956, “Ti Géra” honed his skills in the marching band of Lycée Toussaint Louverture before joining Shleu-Shleu at just 16 years old—a group with which he ultimately settled permanently in the United States.
