UN Reports Over 3,000 Killed in Haiti in First Half of the Year

More than 3,000 people were killed in Haiti during the first six months of the year, the UN said Friday, expressing concern that the expansion of gang violence could destabilize other Caribbean countries.

Haiti has long suffered from the violence of criminal gangs, in a context of political instability. This violence has further intensified since early 2024.

“Between January 1 and June 30, at least 3,141 people were killed in Haiti,” said Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, during the presentation of a report in Geneva.
