Jerry Tardieu Criticizes Plan for Ten Autonomous, Perpetually Re-Electable Governors

Former Pétion-Ville deputy Jerry Tardieu was the guest of the Atlantes University of Cap-Haitien on Friday, June 20, 2025, for a conference on the theme: “Autonomous Departments and Governors: Is it an Unrealistic Decentralization or a Reformist Advance of the Draft New Constitution?” Before an audience composed mainly of youth and prominent local figures, the former Pétion-Ville deputy criticized the proposal of “a federal form of government with ten departments led by ten extremely powerful governors elected by universal suffrage for a five-year term, possessing administrative and financial autonomy.
