Théophile Ostinvil: "DINEPA Is Impacted by the Worsening Security Crisis"

DINEPA has been severely impacted by the deterioration of the country's security situation. Seven of its boreholes in various parts of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince are under gang control. The Morne-à-Cabri sludge treatment station is nearly unusable due to the inability to access it safely. This situation increases the risk of waterborne diseases, such as cholera, especially in gang-controlled areas where no planned emptying of sanitation facilities is possible, said engineer Théophil Ostin, Director General of the National Directorate for Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA), in an interview with Le Nouvelliste.

Le Nouvelliste: What is the situation of DINEPA in this context of insecurity?

Eng. Théophil Ostinvil: Like all other institutions in the country, DINEPA is suffering the consequences of the deterioration of the country’s security environment, particularly in the Metropolitan Region of Port-au-Prince (RMPP). The inability of staff and technicians to travel, as well as the inaccessibility of various DINEPA sites, are among the main challenges.
