Healthcare in Haiti: One Problem at a Time

The Haitian health system has been experiencing a series of tragedies in recent years, forcing the population to adapt to the worst. No one remembers the last time a major public health issue was identified and a structured response was provided. Hospitals, medical training, the exodus of professionals, access to care, blood transfusion, health promotion—health authorities attempt to address everything without truly addressing anything in depth.

The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Bertrand Sinal, inaugurated the Petit-Trou-de-Nippes health center and the Carrefour Honore health center in Asile on February 17, 2025. The Prime Minister was present and promised to improve the social determinants of health. The Nippes department has a significant gap to fill, with only 3.68% of the country’s health institutions located there, and a total of 164 medical professionals serving a population of 382,386, according to the 2023 MSPP statistical report.
