Fire at General Hospital

​​​​​​​According to testimonies from residents, armed gangs set fire to the building of the State University Hospital of Haiti on Thursday, February 13, 2025—or at least to what was left of it. The country’s largest university hospital, closed since February 29, 2024, took its final plunge toward collapse after multiple ordeals.

Early Thursday morning, in downtown Port-au-Prince, residents living near Champ de Mars heard gunfire along Saint-Honoré Street, extending to Sylvio Cator Stadium and passing through Rue de la Réunion.

“It was around 2 p.m. when we saw flames rising from the General Hospital building. Since I don’t live far, I went to Champ de Mars to see for myself.
